Group 5 Project Blog Post

My Group 5 Project is movie editing and I am fairly experienced in the art of video editing as I have worked on many projects that required a video presentation. I am also familiar with editing programs more complicated and advanced than the standard iPad version of iMovie, which is fairly limited.

Some examples of my past work are available on my personal Youtube channel linked here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9uEO2TJU7abO-5ykQhjHSQ

Did I Google Something: Yes, I googled how to make the Sphero ball react and start running a program upon touch.

Did I ask someone: No, I used google to answer the questions I had about Sphero.

Did I follow directions: Yes, I followed the directions for the day clearly and concisely.

Did I play around and figure it out myself: Yes, after spending some time with the Sphero robot, i managed to figure out how the coding program worked.

Group 4 Project: Sphero

For my group for project I was assigned to the Sphero Robot, I am not familiar with Sphero and today is my first over exposure to the device. I have never done anything like this before however I am familiar with the style of block coding that Sphero uses from programs like scratch.

Group 4 Project

In my group 4 project; Movie Editing, I will be learning how to edit and adjust a movie’s visuals for maximum appeal. From this learning experience I can extract the real world skill of learning how to appeal to an audience by meeting their desires in a video or movie project, and listening to their demands and what they want in their movie or video for the best and most preferred result.

1. Movie Editing. I would be interested in pursuing the movie editing project as I consider myself to be pretty good at editing and would like to further hone my skills as a video editor

2. With the skill to edit videos in production software, it will definitely open up some career paths in the video production field, which I have had interest in for quite a long time.

What real world application could it have?: Skills in Photoshop can be used in the real world and the amount of uses are endless, there is no downside to having photoshop skills.

Microsoft Surface Studio

Just this week, Microsoft announced their new Surface device; The Studio.

The Surface Studio can double as a computer and a drawing pad for professional design. This makes it one of the most innovative pieces of technology that Microsoft have released in this decade. The screen can tilt down so it can be used as a drawing pad, or tilted up to be used like a normal computer. Unlike Microsoft’s other computers, the Surface Studio is mostly for individuals working with Photoshop or Illustrator as it does not have very intense hardware making it up.

The most advanced part of this new piece of technology is the screen, Microsoft claims it is one of the brightest, and crisp computer screens available on the market.

The Studio has a hefty price tag of around $2,999, and plans to release this holiday season.

This would be useful in any classroom with students who have aspirations to go into design fields such as

  • Architecture
  • Graphic Design
  • Engineering
  • Studio Art

A great example of a future career path that could be reached by using this device would be working somewhere like Weta Workshops, a famous movie prop and design company responsible for making props for dozens of triple A films including: Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Hunger Games, Jumper, Godzilla, Planet of the Apes, etc.
